Hose connectors

Connectors, which are usually made from brass or plastic, make the link between a hose pipe and the tap, a spraygun, lances and other accessories. Look for connectors with large, easy-to-grip tightening parts

Connectors made from brass are more durable than plastic, but brass is harder to handle and less kind to your skin. Good quality plastic connectors work well but cheaper products may go brittle and snap if exposed to frost and sunlight.

You can usually mix and match connectors from different suppliers, even some brass and some plastic. The most useful connectors are 'waterstops' which fit onto the end a hose and allow you change the accessory on the end without going back to the tap to turn it off first.

Gardena UK Ltd made the original plastic connector system and the 'Super Grip' connectors are recommended from their current range.

Hozelock products are readily available in the shops and are interchangeable with Gardena UK connectors.

C.K Tools make good quality brass connectors, which have "knurled" parts for to give a better grip in use.
